Strategic Plan

Proposed: 7/1/16 – 6/30/17

  • VAHU strives to bring value to the members through relevant communications, our bi-monthly newsletter, and valuable tools on our website. Our goal is to improve our association in order to attract the best agents and brokers, and to continually educate these Virginia members so that they have the knowledge to provide the best service and products to their clients. Further, we strive to develop strong relationships with our state legislators in order to facilitate appropriate legislative health care reform that will maintain and improve delivery of exceptional health care in Virginia.
  • 1.           Leadership
  • Our State Chapter will achieve a full board and support Local Chapters with proper succession planning
  • Consistent and frequent communication to membership regarding leadership opportunities
  • Leadership Training - National, Regional, State and Local levels
  • Annual VAHU Training
  • Encourage local participation in regional and national meetings
  • Annual Region II Meeting - July 28/29, Loews Annapolis Hotel, Annapolis, MD
  • Board Members and Chairs will reach out to their counterparts within local chapters to verify an understanding of tasks and objectives of each position by July 31, 2016 and January 31, 2017

2.       Membership/Retention

  • We will achieve a net 2% membership growth over the next year
  • Member needs survey semi-annually (Scheduled after State Conference and after State CE Week)
  • Membership blitz to coincide with state events throughout the year
  • Membership contest for a 30-60 day period occurring in the board year (February to April)
  • Member Communication via newsletter sent semi-monthly with a minimum of 6 per year, and up-to-date website content with board contacts 
  • Encourage and support consistent and scheduled local chapter meetings
  • Encourage reporting of planned calendar of events by September 1, 2016

3.       Legislative

  • We will continue to develop strong relationships with our state legislators to influence appropriate legislation regarding health care in Virginia
  • Capitol Conference
  • Day on the Hill
  • Continue Monthly calls with local legislative chairs, report to members following each call and send minutes or agenda to awards chair
  • Activity reported in semi-monthly newsletters
  • 4.      Education
  • We will provide education opportunities for our members and support for our chapters
  • Conduct annual statewide CE Day
  • We will provide support and guidance for local chapters and be a conduit of information and resources. 
  • 5.      Awards
  • We will meet the guidelines of a well-run chapter in order to achieve applicable awards and certifications
  • Awards Chair to review awards criteria and status at each board meeting and assign responsibilities
  • State Awards Chair to reach out to local Awards Chair to review awards criteria.
