Virginian's Take Part in Agent Group Fly-In

Registration and the hotel room block are now open for our July 15th Fly-in!

As you know, NAHU is working in connection with NAIFA/AHIA, IIAB, PIA and CIAB to organize a Washington, DC, fly-in event to lobby members of Congress on comprehensive health reform issues on July 14 and 15. The meeting will consist of a cocktail reception on the evening of July 14 and a breakfast briefing on July 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. Following the briefing, members will head to Capitol Hill for appointments with their legislators.

To register with NAHU, please click here. Also, please help VAHU to track atttendance and coordinate member attendence within the state by registering your intend to attend by registering here (on the left).  Remember: There is no national registration fee but attendees are responsible for the costs of travel, lodging and food. Also, you must be a member of NAHU or one of the of the other participating agent organizations to participate in the fly-in.

To make your hotel reservation at our host hotel, the Grand Hyatt Washington, visit this page or call 202-637-4777 and ask for the 2009 Health Insurance Producer Groups Joint Fly-in. NAHU's room rate is $199 for the night of the 14th. You will have to specify that you are registering with NAHU on the phone or in the drop-down menu on the online registration. You will need to book your hotel by Monday, June 15, to be included in the room block and special rate.

NAHU and our fellow agent groups will be setting up the Hill visits between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on July 15 for all registered attendees to make sure that all visits are coordinated. So, unlike Capitol Conference, state associations will not need to worry about scheduling any of their own hill visits. Visits will include representatives from all of the participating trade organizations, and everyone will be given uniform talking points and leave-behind materials at the morning briefing.

For the event, NAHU has compiled a list of targeted representatives and senators, which includes congressional leaders, members of committees of jurisdiction and key moderates who are crucial swing votes on health reform. We would like to have a minimum of two NAHU members from each of these states/districts in attendance, and we will be reaching out to members in these states/districts specifically. If all of your congressional members are not on this list, that does not mean you won't be able to meet with them. NAHU will be happy to schedule appointments with other members of Congress outside of the targeted list—the more meetings we have, the more we can spread our message!

Also, we know that many of our chapters and members who may not live in targeted districts/states may also want to support this effort and lobby their congressional members as well. We welcome all NAHU members and chapters that want to participate in this event to join us in DC, and we will set up visits for all registered attendees! Please work with your chapter to organize who will attend, particularly if your representatives are included in the master target list.

We will also be hosting a preparatory webinar prior to the Fly-in on Wednesday, July 8, at 1:00 EST. We encourage all members planning to attend the Fly-in to participate to learn more about the top issues and the most updated information about the health reform debate. To register for the webinar, please click here.

If you have any questions regarding the Fly-in, please do not hesitate to contact us.
